Two Christmases
…May your dreams come true, may hopes
Shine like stars shine on your way,
Let the merrymaking go
On and on
On Christmas Day!
…This is not a troika carriage
Flying along the snowy street
Waking up a sleepy parish —
But my poem finds its feet…
And, forgetting cold and snow,
I’m rejoicing at the rain —
There’s no frost on show
But warm puddles once again!..
Hide-and-seek the girls are playing —
In the fervent Aussie heat…
And in Russia, kids are sleighing,
Singing carols in the streets.
Russian Christmases are frosty,
With a fall of snowflakes!...
…Meanwhile in the land of Aussie
Poor Santa Claus bakes.
