Don't Go Away

Pain was streaming down my forearms,
Rivers ran, aflame with ardent passion:
I could feel you (blessedness or harm?...)
Oozing through my pores in dropwise fashion.

Every droplet had it — I could feel
Both malady and joy of being —
To the point I wanted my ordeal
Yet to last, to sense your presence near!

Live in me, and let it come what may —
My bed sheets all mapped with chalk and sodden —
Anything but don’t go away
From this burnt to ashes lovesick body!
